Baron and Fleming 2016 Price Books Released

AVAproject users subscribing to the Baron and/or Fleming price books may now download the brand new 2016 editions.

The brand new 2016 Baron and Fleming price books have been released, and are available for download by AVAproject users. As previously announced in the January 2016 edition of AVAwire, the books were originally scheduled to come into effect on March 1st. As a result of several unexpected changes and corrections, that release date has now been pushed back to March 14th.

Following their acquisition by Assa Abloy (Fleming in 2001 and Baron in 2006), the two brands were brought together into a single facility; specifically, the former Baron-only location in Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada. Even the price books reflect the practical consolidation of these brands, as both were based on the format of the previous Fleming edition. The books are virtually identical in structure and share a common nomenclature, with products from the two brands are differentiated by a single leading “F” or “B” at the beginning of their respective product codes. Although similar in many respects, there are still several product series being offered by one brand and not the other.

Metric Sizes

In the previous editions of the price books, the only series that explicitly contained pricing for metric-sized products was Fleming ‘F’ series masonry frames. A separate price grid was provided specifically for identifying and pricing standard metric sizes. Given that the new books were built on this one, they both also contain metric pricing for their masonry frame series (‘F’ series in Fleming, ‘M’ series on Baron).

One of the most noteworthy additions to the new price books are the newly added ‘metric’ size charts located at the beginning of both. Rather than creating new ‘metric’ sizing charts for each series, the creators of the price books added universal guides to “standard” metric sizes. Users wanting to price ‘metric’ sized products can check the charts to determine whether the size they’re looking for can be considered “standard” for the purposes of pricing.

As users should expect, AVAproject will completely automate the pricing process. Metric-sized openings will be automatically checked, converted and priced at the “click” of the ‘Material List’ button.

Unified Hinge Locations

Standard hardware locations for both Fleming and Baron have been revised for 2016. Both brands now share a single common set of hardware locations, and even the previously separate “imperial” and “metric” hinge locations have been eliminated.

Although the new books both have separate pages labelled “Imperial” and “Metric” locations, users should be pleased to hear that the two set have been unified into a single universal set of locations. The “metric” locations in the price books are simply converted imperial locations. The practical upshot of this change is that regardless of whether products are ordered as “metric” or “imperial”, the hardware will be located in the same positions. Imperial and metric products will be fully interchangeable.

Note: Manufacturers’ standard hardware locations are maintained in a library that ships with the AVAproject software – not with the individual catalogs. This enables all users to have access to the entire library of location sets. The new Baron and the Fleming 2016 locations are provided in AVAproject release 15.4.3 (or later). The previous location sets are still maintained in the locations collection, identified as “Baron, pre-2016” and “Fleming, pre-2016” respectively. Unless otherwise selected, the software uses the new locations by default.
