Baron and Fleming 2016 Price Books Have Arrived

AVAproject users across Canada and in many parts of the U.S. will be pleased to hear that Baron and Fleming have both released brand new editions of their hollow metal door and frame price books for 2016.

Two of the most eagerly awaited price books in Canada have arrived! The 2016 Baron and Fleming price books have been released, and come into effect on March 1st. These releases are the first made by either brand since they were acquired by Assa Abloy in 2006 and 2001, respectively, and they consolidated their manufacturing facilities into the Baron location in Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada.

Fleming distributors should be particularly comfortable with the new books; both were clearly modeled after the long-standing Fleming price book (originally released in 2004), and both have maintained much of that original format. Despite its familiar appearance, however, two important changes were introduced in the new versions.

Metric Sizes

In the previous editions of the price books, the only series that explicitly contained pricing for metric-sized products was Fleming ‘F’ series masonry frames. A separate price grid was provided specifically for identifying and pricing standard metric sizes. Given that the new books were built on this one, they both also contain metric pricing for their masonry frame series (‘F’ series in Fleming, ‘M’ series on Baron).

Two newly added size charts located in the beginning of both price books are intended to provide users with a guide to “standard” metric sizes, and thus enable them to use the imperial price grids throughout the rest of the books to price metric products. In order to do so, users would first consult the charts to determine whether the metric size they’re pricing for should be considered “standard” or “non-standard” for that purpose. Secondly, the metric dimensions must be converted to their imperial equivalents in order to select the appropriate price from the imperial-only price grids.

If this sounds like a lot of extra work – AVAproject users should rest easy. The March 2016 editions of both price books will feature pricing modules that will completely automate the pricing process. Metric-sized openings will be automatically checked, converted and priced at the “click” of the Material List button.

Unified Hinge Locations

In the past, both these brands offered separate “imperial” and “metric” hinge locations. To be clear, these two sets of locations were actually different. Hardware was physically placed in difference locations, based on whether the project was identified as “imperial” or “metric”. AVAproject was pre-loaded with both sets of locations; the imperial set was used by default unless the user explicitly selected the metric alternative.

Although the new books both have separate pages labelled “Imperial” and “Metric” locations, users should be pleased to hear that the two set have been unified into a single universal set of locations. The “metric” locations in the price books are simply converted imperial locations. The practical upshot of this change is that regardless of whether products are ordered as “metric” or “imperial”, the hardware will be located in the same positions. Imperial and metric products will be fully interchangeable.

Both the Baron and the Fleming 2016 price books come into effect on March 1st of this year. Both will be online and available for download by subscribers on or before that date. AVAproject users will be automatically notified when the new editions because available.
